Overview

If you experience excessive hair growth during pregnancy, because of shifting hormone levels, there are various options you can consider to get rid of it, the first of which is waxing.

But unfortunately, even pregnancy-safe activities like leg waxing, bikini wax...it requires some precautions for the best results and experience.

Is waxing during pregnancy safe?

Except for any sensitive skin issues you may have, waxing during pregnancy is generally considered safe for pregnant women. But even though waxing is absolutely safe for both the baby and the mother during pregnancy, there are still some things a woman should be aware of.

If you choose to use  waxing kits at home, make sure the tools you use and the environment you are in are sterile and clean.

Avoid waxing areas of the body affected by melasma, rashes, moles, - a mask for pregnant women - or waxing anywhere if you are using an antibiotic.

"If you have moles or warts, pimples, bumps on your skin, avoid waxing as this can cause the skin to break down, which can lead to infection". says Camilia Flipo ,a dermatologist based in the USA.

Both home hair removal kits and salon hair removal are generally considered safe for pregnant women, experts say. If you follow the instructions, home waxing kits are generally considered safe during pregnancy.

Hair removal using wax

If you choose to use wax during pregnancy, you can enjoy the benefits of precision hair removal that will give you smooth skin for three to five weeks. If you're worried about hair growth, waxing is a safe enough way to get it out before your hormone levels return to normal.

For best results, leg hair should be about 1-3/4" long for the wax to optimally adhere and pull it out from the root.

Sensitivity during pregnancy

Your body is producing extra blood and fluids to support your growing baby. As a result, like a pregnant woman you may experience more pain than usual while waxing  while pregnant. So  If you have any doubts about waxing during pregnancy, we recommend that you speak with an experienced prenatal care trained esthetician to have a test done on a small patch of hair which lets you know how your skin will react.

Waxing can be avoided during pregnancy if a rash or tissue scarring occurs on the skin, as this can lead to rashes and pimples. Keep in mind that your very sensitive skin during pregnancy may be more irritated than usual after waxing.

Skin care after waxing

To reduce possible irritation or inflammation after waxing , a pregnancy-safe soothing lotion or aloe vera gel can be applied after waxing.

HiSqin™ Gotu Kola Calming Gel

This Seaweed-based soothing gel provides the ultimate hydration while calming botanicals tend to sensitive or irritated skin.

Rich in Shiitake and Mannentake Mushroom BioComplex, the unique gel texture immediately cools when applied to even the most sensitive skin.

Takeaway

Many pregnant women use waxing as a surefire way to get rid of excess body hair and feel more confident. Pregnant women are advised to give up a lot in the first trimester, but waxing is not one of them.

If waxing is your preferred hair removal method, you can continue to do so as usual during your pregnancy. But If your skin tends to become especially itchy or irritable during pregnancy, it's best to avoid waxing, as it can cause breakouts or growths under the skin.
